To pair your OBD scanner with the Carista App, follow these steps: 1) Plug the scanner firmly into your car's OBD port and turn the ignition on; 2) Enable Bluetooth on your device, open the Carista App, and create your Carista account by registering within the App; 3) Then, press “Connect”.
If you're experiencing issues connecting your OBD scanner to the Carista App via Bluetooth, follow these steps to troubleshoot the problem.
-
Ensure Bluetooth is enabled
First, verify that Bluetooth is turned on in both the Settings and Control Center (for iOS) or Quick Settings (for Android).
For iOS:
- Settings: Open the Settings app, tap on Bluetooth, and ensure the toggle is turned on.
- Control Center: Swipe down (or up, depending on your device) to open the Control Center and check if Bluetooth is enabled. The icon will be white when Bluetooth is on but not connected and blue when actively connected.
Note: The Control Center toggle only disconnects devices but doesn’t fully turn off Bluetooth. For full functionality, ensure Bluetooth is enabled via Settings.
For Android:
- Settings: Open the Settings app, tap on Bluetooth (or Connections → Bluetooth, depending on your device), and ensure the toggle is turned on.
- Quick Settings: Swipe down from the top of your screen to open Quick Settings, then check if Bluetooth is enabled.
-
Ensure Bluetooth permissions are granted for the Carista App
To properly connect, Bluetooth permissions must be enabled for the Carista App.
For iOS:
- Go to Settings → Carista and ensure Bluetooth permissions are enabled.
For Android:
- Android 11 and earlier:
- Go to Settings → Apps → Carista → Permissions and enable Location.
- Android 12 and above:
- Go to Settings → Apps → Carista → Permissions and allow Nearby Devices.
-
Pair your device with the OBD Scanner
After ensuring that Bluetooth is enabled and the Carista App has the necessary Bluetooth permissions, firmly plug the scanner into your car’s OBD port and turn on the ignition. Next, open the Carista App, create or log into your Carista account, and pair the scanner with the App. Follow the instructions below based on your device’s operating system.
For iOS:
- Open Settings → Bluetooth on your iPhone.
- Wait for your scanner to appear in the list of available devices.
- Tap on the scanner name to pair.
For Android:
- Open Settings → Connected devices → Bluetooth.
- Scan for available devices.
- Select the scanner to pair.
Important Notes:
- If you're not seeing you scanner in the list of Bluetooth devices, try manually pairing it through your device’s Bluetooth settings. If prompted, enter the PIN (usually 1234 or 0000).
- If your scanner appears with a "headphones" icon in your Bluetooth list, it is likely a faulty clone and is not supported by Carista.
Still having issues?
Try the following troubleshooting steps:
- Unplug the scanner and plug it back in.
- Turn Bluetooth off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.
- Try unpairing and re-pairing the scanner.
- Ensure no other OBD apps are running in the background and disable their auto-connect features.
- Restart your phone and try again.
